Steven
Class 77
“The Lord opened up doors for me.” Steven was born and raised in Charlotte, NC and was in the US Army for 5 years in the 82nd Airborne Division stationed in Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), NC. He was a paratrooper whose duty was to provide supplies and parts to machinery and soldiers in the war zones. “We would jump out of planes and hike miles to where we needed to go with the supplies. I was there to support everyone else’s needs. A mechanic, if you will.” Aside from serving our country, Steven has always enjoyed cooking, particularly baking. He realized his niche was baking many years ago when he started making cakes for his mom. “She’d say, ‘You’re really doing something here!’ She’s been gone 18 years now, but I still do it for her.” Specifically, Steven loves baking wedding cakes. After graduation, he hopes to start his own business making and decorating wedding cakes. “I love it. It makes me happy.” Steven was a GED teacher at CPCC when one of his students came up to him and introduced him to CCSC. “When I found out about the School, my teaching job was almost up. I knew it was time. The Lord opened up doors for me.” Steven says that his favorite part about School is that he is able to enhance the knowledge he already has while still gaining new skills every day.
