Sherita

Class 80

“Cooking is my peace.” Born in Delaware, Sherita moved to Charlotte with her daughter for a fresh start in early 2020. She has been cooking since she was 10 years old. “I practically raised my sister and had to cook for both of us growing up. That’s where it all started.” Sherita says she also comes from generations of cooks, so it’s just a part of who she is. “I feel like I inherited this gene, this gift.” “The best part about cooking is watching people eat what you’ve created and getting to see how they enjoy it.” Sherita says she views cooking as a way to give back, saying, “I like being able to bless people with this gift I have.” After graduation, Sherita hopes to start a catering business that allows her to continue giving back to the community. “I want to do something where after every certain number of meals I sell, I give ‘x’ meals back to the community for free. It just feels right.” When asked if she had any advice for future students, she said, “If cooking is something you want to do, hold on to it tight and don’t let it go.”
