Kia
Class 77

“Cancer didn’t defeat me, so cancer doesn’t define me.” Kia was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. At the young age of 26, Kia has already been diagnosed with, beaten, and is in remission from breast cancer. “I still have two more surgeries to go this year. But cancer didn’t defeat me, so cancer doesn’t define me.” When she was first diagnosed, she realized she needed something to do at home that was creative but could also provide income for her family. Soon enough, she found the answer in the kitchen. “I found love in the kitchen. I found love in baking. It’s a newfound passion, but I know it’ll take me far.” Kia started her own dessert business, Tasty Treats, in February of 2024 and knew she wanted to go to school to continue learning and improving her skills. Kia found out about CCSC through her sister, who was a graduate of Class 76. After graduation, Kia is looking forward to growing her business and finding a job in the culinary field, hopefully in baking. “I tell myself affirmations every morning. You have to believe in yourself. The key to having everything is to believe that you already do.” Well said, Kia!
