J'lan

Class 68

J’lan is from Brooklyn, NY, but as an Army brat, he has traveled to Alaska, New Mexico, and Italy. His dad was stationed in Fort Bragg in 2009, and eventually moved to Charlotte. J’lan moved to Charlotte in May to be closer to his dad and to attend CCSC. J’lan is a singer, and his manager works a lot of traveling shows, so he encouraged him to travel to Ghana. J’lan said that going to Ghana was a great experience and he learned a lot about Afrobeat music. While there, he realized that he could not cook. So, he was determined to learn and master cooking when he came back home. J’lan has worked in the restaurant industry for ten years, but he was interested in working in the kitchen, where he can be more creative. A friend of his dad’s recommended CCSC, so J’lan came to visit and immediately liked it. Since starting at CCSC, he was surprised to learn that he really likes baking. He enjoys the level of precision, comparing it to being like a scientist. Since being here, he has met a lot of good people. He says hearing his fellow students’ experience is very humbling. After he graduates, J’lan wants to open his own food truck, focusing on healthy food. He hopes to be able to park it near a gym and show people that healthy food doesn’t taste bad. Welcome to Class 68, J’lan!
